Discover the rich colour and expressive qualities of pastels in this friendly five-week introduction. Whether you’re completely new to pastels or returning to them after a break, this course will give you the opportunity to explore this wonderfully versatile medium in a relaxed and supportive setting.
Over the five sessions, you’ll learn how to use pastels to create different marks, blend and layer colour, build up light and shade, and explore texture and atmosphere. We’ll look at how different types of pastel behave and how the way you hold and apply them can create very different effects.
Through a series of guided exercises and projects, you’ll explore subjects such as still life, flowers and landscapes, building your skills and confidence as you go. There will be plenty of opportunity to experiment and discover how you can use colour and mark-making to develop your own style.
This course is suitable for complete beginners as well as anyone wanting to refresh their pastel skills. There’s no pressure to produce a perfect picture. The emphasis is on learning, experimenting and enjoying the process of creating.
All materials are provided, so you can simply turn up and start creating. You’re also very welcome to bring along your own pastels, papers or other art supplies if you already have them. If you have materials you’re unsure about, bring them along and I’ll be happy to explain what they are and how you can use them.
You'll also have access to the Art Hub, a dedicated place where you can post images of your work, share your progress, and receive feedback from both fellow students and myself.
Come along and discover the wonderful colour and texture that pastels can bring to your artwork.
Book your spot and discover the joy of creating together.
