Discover just how versatile coloured pencils can be in this friendly five-week introduction. Often thought of as a simple drawing material, coloured pencils can create beautifully rich colour, delicate details, interesting textures and surprisingly sophisticated artwork.
During the course, you’ll learn how to get the most from your pencils, exploring colour mixing, layering, blending, pressure and mark-making. We’ll look at how to create light and shade, build form and texture, and combine colours to create depth and interest. We will also experiment with watercolour pencils and working on coloured papers.
Through guided exercises and projects, you’ll work with a variety of subjects including still life, flowers and natural forms. Each session will introduce new techniques while giving you plenty of time to practise and experiment.
This course is ideal for complete beginners or anyone who has used coloured pencils before and would like to refresh their skills. You don’t need to have previous drawing experience. Everything will be introduced step-by-step, with friendly guidance and demonstrations throughout.
All materials are provided, so you can simply turn up and start creating. You’re also very welcome to bring your own coloured pencils, sketchbook or other supplies if you already have them. If you have a collection of pencils sitting at home that you’re not quite sure how to use, bring them along and I’ll be happy to help you get more from them!
