Discover the versatility and vibrancy of acrylic painting in this friendly five-week introduction. Whether you’ve never picked up a paintbrush before or you’re returning to painting after a break, this course will give you the opportunity to explore acrylics in a relaxed and supportive setting.
Over the five sessions, we’ll explore the qualities of acrylic paint and learn how to get the most from this versatile medium. You’ll discover how to mix and use colour, control your brushes, create different marks and textures, and build a painting through layers. We’ll also look at simple composition, light and shade, and ways of adding detail and interest to your work.
Each session will include demonstrations, practical exercises and guided projects, giving you plenty of time to experiment and develop your confidence. We’ll explore a variety of subjects and approaches, allowing you to discover how acrylics can be used in different ways, from loose and expressive marks to more controlled painting.
This course is suitable for complete beginners as well as anyone who has used acrylics before and would like to refresh their skills. There’s no pressure to produce a perfect painting. Instead, you’ll be encouraged to experiment, ask questions and enjoy discovering what acrylic paint can do.
All materials are provided, so you can simply turn up and start painting. You’re also very welcome to bring along your own brushes, paints or other art supplies if you already have them. If you have materials you’re unsure about, bring them along and I’ll be happy to explain what they are and how you can use them.
You'll also have access to the Art Hub, a dedicated place where you can post images of your work, share your progress, and receive feedback from both fellow students and myself.
