Course: Sketching at the Harbour, Minehead
Time: 10am - 12.30pm
Venue: Minehead Harbour, (meet outside The Old Ship Aground,) Quay St, Minehead TA24 5UL
Dates: 18th July 2026
Duration: 2.5 hours
There's something special about sitting outdoors with a sketchbook and taking the time to really look at the world around you. Join me for a relaxed and inspiring morning at Minehead Harbour, where we'll slow down, observe, and capture the unique character of this historic coastal setting.
Whether you're completely new to sketching or already enjoy drawing, this workshop will help you develop confidence in sketching on location. The harbour offers a wonderful variety of subjects, from fishing boats and harbour walls to weathered textures, distant views and changing light. I'll guide you through simple techniques for observing, simplifying complex scenes and recording what you see without feeling overwhelmed.
Rather than focusing on producing a perfect finished drawing, we'll explore ways to use sketching as a tool for observation, creativity and enjoyment. You'll receive individual support throughout the session and plenty of encouragement to develop your own style and approach.
This workshop is also a wonderful opportunity to spend time with like-minded people, enjoy the fresh sea air and experience the pleasure of creating art outdoors.
Suitable for: All abilities
What to bring: A sketchbook and drawing materials, a small watercolour kit if you have one and weather-appropriate clothing. There are plenty of benches to sit on at the harbour but do bring a cushion or blanket if you want.
Further support: You'll also have access to the Art Hub, a dedicated place where you can post images of your work, share your progress, and receive feedback from both fellow students and myself, after the workshop has finished.
