Trees are among the most fascinating and rewarding subjects to draw and paint. They can add structure, atmosphere and character to a landscape, yet many artists find them surprisingly difficult to capture convincingly.
This practical workshop will help you understand trees in a simple and approachable way. Through a series of step-by-step exercises, you'll learn how to observe and interpret their shapes, structures and unique characteristics. We'll explore ways of drawing trunks, branches and foliage, along with techniques for suggesting texture, movement and depth.
You'll also learn how colour, light and shadow can help bring trees to life in your artwork. Whether you're interested in drawing individual specimens, woodland scenes or broader landscapes, the skills you develop during this workshop will strengthen your confidence and observational abilities.
The day combines demonstrations, practical exercises and individual support, creating a relaxed learning environment where everyone can progress at their own pace.
By the end of the workshop you'll have a greater understanding of how trees grow, how to simplify complex forms and how to create convincing tree studies using a range of drawing and painting techniques.
