Inspired by some medieval tiles in St David’s cathedral, Wales. I used Mastercut for the first time, but found it quite difficult to cut detail. However it did print well. Despite my best efforts the pattern doesn’t quite line up, I think any error you make is made worse when you try and fit the tiles together and my original square tile was slightly off true. Still I enjoyed the challenge and playing about with different colour backgrounds. The orange is most true to the original tiles. Helen
Thanks Chris and Tricia for your comments. Yes, I would agree with all Tricia said about Mastercut. I think I will now have a go with the Lino cut blocks but imagine the printing will be slightly more difficult. Helen
Helen do bring these on Monday, as this is what we've been working on....and will be working on next week.
Mastercut is much softer than lino. Almost like cutting a white eraser. But as it's so soft it pulls and stretches, so is hard to cut very thin fine details and it's hard to cut at the edges of the block as it pulls out of shape a little. But it does make a bit better print with the ink pads.
The black and white is my favourite; I can imagine it in a bathroom...So tricky to line up the tiles exactly and once it's printed, too late to move the block without blurring the print! Is Mastercut easier to work than lino?
