Chinese Brush Painting

Traditional techniques with expressive mark-making

This gallery features work created by students attending Chinese Brush Painting beginners’ workshops over several years. Students learn how to hold the brush correctly to achieve flowing, expressive marks, beginning with ground black ink before progressing to Chinese watercolours.

Workshops introduce traditional techniques while allowing space for individual expression and experimentation. Students often find the process calming, focused and rewarding, regardless of previous experience.

The resulting artwork reflects confidence, control and a growing understanding of this distinctive painting style.
