Direct Painting - Flowers

Art Along With Tricia
In this relaxed, paint-along session, I'll guides you through creating simple flower sketches using direct painting techniques. You’ll explore how to build little floral illustrations straight onto the page, thinking about brush marks, shape placement, and leaving small “paper dams” so your colours stay clean and fresh. Perfect for beginners and uplifting for more experienced artists, this session encourages playfulness, curiosity, and confident mark making.
Take part to experiment with gouache or watercolour, practise painting vases and stems, and enjoy creating charming bunches of flowers without worrying about perfection. You can work from imagination, photos, or real blooms—anything that inspires you.
Skills You'll Learn:
-
Direct painting and confident mark-making with small brushes

Planning composition and spacing to avoid colour bleed

Top Tip:
Keep an eye on the gaps between shapes. Leaving tiny areas of untouched paper helps stop colours from merging and gives your sketch a crisp, lively look.
