Chance button press got a slow motion sound effect a bit like another layer of perspective or expression..I took it down from tiktok as i was selfconscious of it looking a bit hobo ish but thought to post it here and other storage for sake of reference...part of my slowly emerging neokubric esque video opus for a bognor experience
I think you are exploring ‘art’ in different ways and yet not found what you’re comfortable with. Maybe use your drawn art as a way to storyboard your ‘camera/movie art’, just a thought.
Canva also allows you to create short videos I think. I've never used that facility, but there is something interesting in trying to condense ideas into a short film. A bit like trying to write a haiku.
canva seemed a new one to me...I have looked up canva.com online...trying any of the various apps is part of the exploring...
I'm so glad you are having fun exploring this new medium. It's also interesting to see how you are approaching the development of ideas into quite a different medium.
It's worth finding our about the 'conventions'of film making. Think about filmic tropes and how you can play about with expectations.
I would also think about using an app (live canva) or photoshop to make a thumbnail or 'title page' for the start, which will be displayed initially, especially as above, when you are scrolling through images and videos.
Yet - from this initial attempt or exploration - I find myself looking anew at what possible materials I could start to gather with camera and store to have available for further editings ( plus also what additional to the basic kinds of editing treatments one can access via apps) ....similar to how I have begun to look at things anew and new possibilities from having done the introductory drawings and paints classes and experiences from here and such classes and stimulus...
regarding the few elements in the sequence - which were pre - existing in my store - the humming and wandering hand camera of the second part was me humming to at least start to explore how sound and music can go with images - who knows later one maybe could use all kinds of recorded sound input editing but for now I had to start here at basic level 1....SO - all the elements could be re-explored with more sophisticated filmmaking one day....the initial words were a summing up of some writing and drawing one had done in a session..i called it road to a new age...as one was feeling something hopeful could come from recent times....)....but...the meanings may still seem underdeveloped of course...and the " come on" shout was a sort of giving the attitude some passion of the desire to actually some personal or mutual or wider evolution...or to have a newer world or realm or possibilities of solutions to life's meaning or meanings... ( well a pal of mine on facebook said he related to that when he watched the mini video - so..a response of a sort....though also I reflect of other kinds of passion are maybe better than too much of the gung ho heart in mouth type of almost desperate trying..maybe other ways..also..have just as much or more earnestness or maybe something more enlightened is needed)....or to attain a level of evolution in consciousness - I am influenced a bit by yoga ideas of higher levels of consciousness/chakras(wheels or cycles of evolution)..as the aims of evolution...plus also recently was impressed by performance artist Marina Abramovitch on sky arts channel - where she thought the aim of some art could indeed be to get a different consciousness from the performing...and also the German artist Beuyce I read about who was into similar things....those latter 2 being recent contemporaries that i thought were maybe getting onto something interesting...So - hey...a lot more work could be done to develop exactly any identifiable subject matter..and that might be a skill of enhanced video making or exhibition developing( ie. of all the themes - eg. if the aim is to be something that almost any person could quickly comprehend - such as from Hollywood the idea that the young lad in Kansas farmlands and similar should be able to understand the plots and subjects of what is going on..though then again at other schools of thought one maybe does not aim for that but can legitimately look for the obscure or uncommonplace or the created by chance even...)....but..from reflecting upon a first half aware attempt..one can perhaps look further into the ideas related to or emerging from the activities...
(note _ although this was a simple seeming act..it has caused me quite a lot of reflection about even the simple first perceptions of editing and relating this to other arts explored before...and I have thus listed quite a lot of thoughts...I humbly appeal that though it may seem only linked to the themes of drawing and painting so far explored..yet it can have links to this plus at times we have mentioned wider arts and contemporary arts in discussing what is what in regard to drawing and painting and collage etc. and I am thankful for the quest of reflecting on its meaning...It's simple attempted meaning was = a person relating on meanings of hope and endeavour with art during an online improvisational existential type arts meanings group...then adding on 2 extra photo type elements of a madonna and sunlight as symbols or even realities of hope and meaning...but done very much as a first exploration of editing app with beginner level ability...I posted it also on facebook..trying to explore to possibly participate in the contemporary online vogue and spreading tech of creations of online meanings):Reflections :-well I humbly admit this was in one aspect a "baby steps" attempt to get a first experience with a contemporary online simple video editing app - and in a beginner's muddling through mode I accessed a few items available in my store on my ipad...so it is a first attempt to use an EDIT app ( the imovie one from mac here on ipad)... I humbly reflect that it has been instructive and moreso since having to reflect on its meanings...the first thing is to just try and fix something together with an edit mode...a bit like gluing in collage...and that depends on whatever pre-recorded material one has in store..unless one decides to set up or access something to video immediately...one can also include photographs to insert it seems..( I had some personal documentary items taken from a previous online art improv group which was partly about the existential quest of being any kind of artist or creative person during these times of covid and other life issues )...But I also thought to add on a video /photo sequence from a Raphael documentary on tv ( I think it was Raphael...or Da Vinci) featuring a Madonna pic - symbolising a sort of mystic union image, and then finally added on a photo I had in store of a recent sunset ( which for me stands for mystic light)>>so these were some ready to hand sequences and images to juxtapose in a linear type simple editing task....However I also reflected that..doing this started to remind me of the stage reached whereby one drew an initial sketch like in early sketch book drawings...and then after ward could further start to extrapolate or add on elements of meaning derived from a stimulus...so..it related for me to things learned in previous drawing and painting classes....The contemporary tech of editing has long been a source of unknowing mystery to me - so I was here starting to make steps with it... I started to think maybe the camera could be like a crayon or paintbrush..more so than the camera as pen idea of literary influenced flimmakers...also it was a way in to start wondering if one could step into abstraction..or wider than realist themes..yet again one might do well to ...say do... documented type study say, of the hill area we went out drawing on..ie. editing pics and features of a commonly knowable subject like a local landscape..then..could add sound...visual tweaks maybe...and similarly for any of various other documentary subjects..whether factual historic or personalised impressions of subjects...I also start to wonder about other types of camera..positions..etc...SO - this has been a start to explore..rather basically..simple steps of editing(combining) and collecting of material...and also began to give insight into the topic of "montage" whereby one can combine previously perhaps unrelated subjects so as to give them new meanings....( I also ponder if diptich and tryptich is a predecessor of such..ie. combining 2 or 3 or more images to get contrasts or wider semantics).....so for me it has been a useful step in exploring possible artistic method for an area ..ie. video and photography...which before I also did not easily perceive how it could become more artistic...or...more creative...then merely flat recording...but start to see some of its possibilities and why in latter days photography and moving image has been acknowledged as having a place in the arts..also frankly it is such a ubiquitous medium now and I have been concerned to try and make some step forward in my limited comprehensions of editing apps so far..but..a new first step perhaps..( I also happened across a book on film awhile ago which described it as a very modern art form...yet I was vexed at the time to understand why...though since doing drawing and some painting I got more insight into the realms of such thoughts..)..And also I at one point found myself recalling the early quote about pop art as involving ...the ephemeral...the sensual and a number of other elements...from the comment by the composer of one of the earliest pop art collages...which is part of the range of possible subjects...perhaps limitless one could try to access in these days..)...regards and thanks.
Andy, thanks for sharing.....
I always try to comment on peoples posts, with something I like about their piece and either something they can add or a question to prompt more information.
I'm not sure what to say about your video... Its great that you put it out for us all and I really appreciate that. It made me smile for sure.....but I'm not sure what it means.
Maybe like all 'Art " it's up to the viewer to give the work meaning, not the artist....I may have to think on this one for a bit. 🙂
