Again another attempt to get movement into my painting. Not sure I’m totally happy with it, the boat proportions once I painted the sea now looks wrong and I over worked the sky. Acrylic on paper
Thanks Sue.Yes! And we’ve all been sitting in the solent in blue sky and suddenly look towards the IOW and see a squall appearing over top of the island. It always surprise my how quickly it can be upon you!
Have you tried oil paints for blending? Easier than acrylics. Alkyds oil paints are fast drying and used with Zest-It is toxic free and has a pleasant lemon smell.
Hi George,I’ve tried oil and watercolour and have no trouble blending but even thou I’m using a blending medium with the acrylic paint I’m still not getting the result I’ve seen other achieve when painting skyscrapers using acrylic paint. Still ‘practice makes perfect’ !Cheers mark
Wow. I love this one. Really dramatic. The sea and sky look wild. The boat looks fine. Perhaps the colour is a little bright in contrast with the sea and sky? Or is it that the boat is so close to the centre of the image, it draws your focus?Yep great effect. You could add a little more blue into the cloud on the left to break it up a little or move the boat further to the left.Remember to plan your composition first. Either 2thirds 1third - horizontal or vertical. Or diagonal, lots happening in one section nothing much in the other. A kind of ying and yang diagonally on the page. How do you think you've overworked the sky? Could you do anything to pull it back? This does make me feel a little seasick and I can smell the salt and hear the gulls!
Thanks Tricia! I did the sky first then when it was dry I drew and painted the boat at an angle which I knew was going to be the tricky bit, then finished doing the sea. I copied the boat from a photo I downloaded off the internet as I had to draw it. I’m still struggling to blend colours using acrylics for the sky, I painted the blue, then mixed and painted the Payne’s grey then tried to blend in the white using my finger. I defiantly need more practice at doing that! Thanks for your comments hope your having a great Easter holiday
Love this, very dramatic, if only we could be out there! Looked at the live Solent webcam and there isn't a single boat.
